Salah (also: 'salat') - What Is It?
What Does 'Salat' Mean? - Does It Mean "Prayer"?  
"Salat" = "Ritualistic Form of Worship Prescribed by Allah for Muslims"

"Salat" = Worship in Islam
Allah says in the Holy Qur'an (when Allah spoke directly to Moses)

"And I have chosen you, so listen to that which is inspired to you. Verily, I am Allah! There is none worthy of worship but I, so worship Me and offer prayer perfectly for My remembrance." [Holy Qur'an 13-14]

"Successful indeed are the believers. Those who offer their Prayers with humility and attentiveness." [Holy Qur'an (23):1-2]
"Guard strictly your prayers, and your middle prayer, and stand before Allah in devoutness." [Holy Qur'an 238]

Salat
[Ritual prayer - prescribed for Muslims by Almighty God] 

"The first matter of a person to be taken into consideration on the Day of Judgment shall be the obligatory salat [formal prayer]. If it is in order then he will enter Paradise without any further reckoning. If it is deficient then the voluntary salat will be used to make up the deficiency. If it is still deficient then he will have to go through the normal Reckoning."

  4. Niyah [intention to offer specific prayer]
  5. Wudu [washing or ablution]
  6. Qiblah [direction of Mecca]
  7. Properly clothed
  8. Adthan [call to salat]
  9. Takbeer [saying "Allahu Akbar"]
  10. Raising hands & folding them
  11. Reciting Introduction
  12. Fatihah [opening of Quran]
  13. Additional verses
  14. Ruku [bowing]
  15. Qiam [standing back up]
  16. Sajdah [prostration]
  17. Jalsa [sitting]
  18. Tashahud [reciting while sitting]
  19. Darud [prayer in final sitting]
  20. Tasleem [saying "Salam Alaykum"]
  21. Thikr [remembering Allah after salat]
  22. Dua [supplication]

After the correct belief in Almighty Allah, the ritual prayer five times daily is the single most important aspect of being a Muslim.

In an authentic saying of the Prophet Mohummad, peace be upon him, he said:
 "He is not of us who leaves the salat [5 times prayer]."
